Katie Smith
Katie received her Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from the University of Denver, Lamont School of Music where she served as principal oboe in the Lamont Symphony Orchestra and Lamont Wind Ensemble. Her woodwind quintet was awarded the first place in the Lamont School of Music’s Chamber Music Competition; performing “Summer Music” by Samuel Barber. A former member of the Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra and the Denver Bach Society Orchestra, she currently performs with the St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral Festival Orchestra and is a freelance oboist in the Denver area. Previously, she was principal oboe of the Denver Young Artists Orchestra, touring England and Italy. Katie also participated in Le Domaine Forget Music Festival in Québec, Canada as well as the Music and Sound Program at the Banff Centre for the Arts. Her teachers have included: Dr. Michael Miller, Elaine Douvas, Rebecca Henderson, and Dr. Richard Killmer. In addition to performing as principal oboe with the Lone Tree Symphony Orchestra, she is also a founding member of the Gossamer Winds Woodwind Quintet.
