I have been playing tuba with the Lone Tree Symphony since 2002. I started playing tuba in 1958 in a public school's summer beginning band program. Tuba was the only instrument that the school provided that had not already been claimed. I hauled it to rehearsal using my red Radio Flyer wagon.
My undergraduate degree is Instrumental Music Education from UNC. I have a Masters Degree from UNC, and postgraduate studies at Denver University. I have been fortunate to be selected to both Colorado Bandmasters’ Association and Colorado Music Educators’ Association Hall of Fame.
I was Director of Bands at Cherry Creek High School from 1970 until 2000. I then taught bands (grades 5 through 12) at Denver Christian Schools for 12 years. I retired in 2013. Other than the Lone Tree Symphony, I play in various brass groups, Dixieland bands, and polka bands. I am “on call” for local special performances.
Since I am the only tuba player in the Lone Tree Symphony - managing the tuba section has been very easy.
I met my wonderful wife in the (all male) marching band at UNC - she was the featured baton twirler, and the only female in the band. My two daughters are both accomplished French Horn players. My four grandchildren are doing quite well as instrumentalists in their respective school programs. We occasionally have “family ensemble” performances.
