Serving as the Lone Tree Symphony's Principal Trumpet since 2015, Gary has been playing trumpet for 53 years. He studied music at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado from 1982 to 1987 and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance. He pursued a Master’s Degree in Music Performance at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley from 1990 to 1994. He prides himself on being a commercial trumpet player with the ability to play all genres of music—from classical to jazz to funk, rock, and soul.
In 1990, he toured Great Britain with an international orchestra under the direction of Sir Simon Rattle, along with guest violinist Yehudi Menuhin, performing for the Queen Mother’s 90th birthday at Royal Albert Hall in London.
After graduate school, he began working with a production company—managing, recording, and touring with internationally renowned jazz musicians. James Moody, Ron Carter, Freddy Cole, Horace Silver, Eddie Gomez, Roy Hargrove, and Terence Blanchard were among the many artists he had the privilege of working alongside.
Today, he is the proud father of a 21-year-old daughter who has her Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences with a minor in Vocal Music Performance from the University of Colorado in Boulder, and is now pursuing her Master’s of Science degree in Speech Language Pathology at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.
He has been the Principal Trumpet for the Lone Tree Symphony Orchestra since 2015 and is also a proud member of the Colorado Wind Ensemble, Principal Trumpet for the Denver Concert Band, as well as being a preferred substitute for many other performing groups in the Denver metropolitan area.
