Scott McDonald is a software engineer who has been performing on the trombone for more than 45 years across symphonic, concert band, jazz, and chamber music settings. He currently serves as Principal Trombone of the Lone Tree Symphony Orchestra and Principal Trombone of the Denver Concert Band.
In addition to his work in large ensembles, he is a member of the Swing Incorporated jazz band, where he enjoys exploring the rich traditions of big band and swing music, and performs with the trombone quartet FunnyBones, showcasing the versatility of the instrument in a chamber setting.
Scott’s musical foundation was shaped early through his participation in the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps, where he marched for six years, developing the precision and discipline that continue to inform his playing today. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Colorado in 1992, balancing his academic studies with his involvement in the university’s marching band.
When he’s not working or making music, Scott enjoys playing hockey—but his forte will always be the trombone.
